Sindhi Foundation, a Washington DC-based organization dedicated to the human rights of Sindhis, has sought assistance from the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for the recovery of kidnapped minor Sindhi Hindu girl Priya Kumari.
Sufi Munawar Laghari, Executive Director of the Sindhi Foundation, announced this in a press release issued from Geneva on Thursday.
Sufi Munawar Laghari, a renowned human rights activist from Sindh living in exile in Washington DC, said in a press release, “The Sindhi diaspora community is issuing an SOS call to the United Nations Human Rights Council to help us rescue an innocent minor Sindhi girl who has been missing for the last three years.”
He said the minor girl was believed to be in illegal custody of the powerful Shahs of Sindh who have the support of the Pakistan Army.
Laghari stressed that the continued abduction of Sindhi minor girls and women and their forced conversion to Islam is a matter of grave concern in Sindh.
In this situation UNHRC should immediately intervene to initiate an international independent investigation into the matter.
“The UNHRC must pressurise Pakistan to immediately return the minor girl Priya Kumari alive and safe to her parents and persuade Pakistan to take necessary steps to prevent the abduction and forced conversion of young Sindhi women and minor girls in Sindh,” Laghari demanded.
Munawar Laghari also announced that the Sindhi Foundation is planning to organise a demonstration on 8 July against the abduction and forced conversion of Priya Kumari and other Sindhi minor girls and women.
The demonstration will be held around the sculpture of a broken chair in front of the UNHRC building in Geneva.
Additionally, Sufi Munawar Laghari will submit a memorandum to the UNHRC President, informing him about the atrocities committed against Sindhis in Sindh.
He also appealed to human rights activists and organisations to express their support and solidarity with Priya Kumari, her parents and other abducted daughters of Sindh. He urged them to put pressure on the Pakistani government to stop these forced conversions.
