Pant said in the awards ceremony after the match, “We were very happy to score more than 250 runs, but due to the impact player rule, it is becoming difficult to defend even this kind of score.”

The captain praised Jack Fraser McGurk who laid the foundation of a big score by scoring 84 runs in 27 balls. Pant said, “He has been amazing from day one and that is what you want from a young player. He is getting better with every match.

Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya, who was on the verge of being out of the playoff race after this defeat, talked about the team's understanding of the match situations. Taking aim at the team's left-handed batsmen (Verma and Nehal Vadhera), he said that these batsmen should have scored more runs against a bowler like Axar Patel.

He said, “We had adopted a positive attitude towards chasing the target. We could have taken some more chances in the middle overs. The left-handed batsman could probably have played some more big shots against Akshar (Patel). We missed the mark in terms of game awareness.
