India tells SCO member countries to adopt zero-tolerance approach towards terrorism

Defense Secretary Giridhar Aramane stressed the need to adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards all forms of terrorism at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) defense ministers' meeting held in Astana on Friday.

The meeting, held within the framework of Kazakhstan's ongoing SCO presidency, was attended by the heads of defense departments of SCO member states, the Secretary General, the director of the Executive Committee of the Organization's Regional Anti-Terrorism Structure (RATS). Leading the Indian delegation, the Defense Secretary delivered a statement at the ministerial meeting and also held meetings with Defense Ministers of SCO member states on various issues of bilateral cooperation.

Armane reiterated India's strong commitment towards maintaining peace, stability and security in the SCO region and noted New Delhi's long-term proposal for a comprehensive conference on international terrorism at the United Nations.

He also highlighted India's concept of 'Security and Growth for All in the Region' (SAGAR) for the Indo-Pacific region.

During the meeting, the Defense Ministers of all the SCO member countries signed a protocol.

A statement issued by the Kazakh Defense Ministry noted that heads of defense departments also agreed to develop cooperation between military-historical museums to promote the activities of the armed forces of the organization's member states.
