China never desist from its antics. China and India have reached 'some consensus' on disengagement of troops along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. But, China has once again laid claim to Arunachal Pradesh. In fact, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian on Thursday expressed displeasure over a group of Indian mountaineers naming an unnamed peak in Arunachal Pradesh after the Sixth Dalai Lama. Speaking at a media briefing in Beijing, Lin said the creation of so-called 'Arunachal Pradesh' in Chinese territory is illegal and invalid. Do you know who was the sixth Dalai Lama and why does China have so much objection to his name? Why is China angry over naming a peak in Arunachal Pradesh after a Lama?
After whom is the peak of Arunachal named?
China's comments came after an expedition by a team from the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS) under the Defense Ministry. A team led by Colonel Ranveer Singh Jamwal, director of the institute, climbed an unnamed and uncharted peak 20,942 feet (6,383 m) high in the Gorichen massif in the Mon Tawang region of Arunachal Pradesh. It was decided to name this peak after the Sixth Dalai Lama, Tsangyang Gyatso. Tsangyang was born in 1682 in the Mon Tawang region.

Why is the peak named after the 6th Dalai Lama?
According to a Defense Ministry press release, the peak is named after the Dalai Lama. Behind this is Lama's incomparable contribution towards the intellectual and Monpa community. The Chinese spokesperson has said that I am not aware of the special naming of the peak. “I should say more broadly that the Jangnan area is Chinese territory… China has had a continuous presence there,” he said.
China has repeatedly made territorial claims on Arunachal
China considers Arunachal Pradesh as part of South Tibet. It has been renaming places in Arunachal Pradesh, which it calls Jangnan, since 2017 to emphasize territorial claims by describing the area as 'naturally part of China's territory'].
India has always said that there has been no change in reality
India has completely rejected these claims on Arunachal Pradesh. There have been several occasions when New Delhi has rejected Beijing's move to change the name of the region, saying it does not change the reality. Arunachal Pradesh and Ladakh have been a part of India for centuries.
When the Dalai Lama was kidnapped by a Mongol general
The sixth Dalai Lama, Tsangyang Gyatso, was born in Mon Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh in 1682. He was enthroned as the sixth Dalai Lama in 1697 at the age of 14. After some delay Tsangyang Gyatso was recognized as the sixth Dalai Lama. The construction of the Potala Palace could be completed in several years. He was an unconventional Dalai Lama, preferring the life of a yogi of the Nyingma school rather than that of an ordained monk. He was later kidnapped and deposed by Koshut Lha-Bazang Khan.
Hang out with the girls, drink and spend the night on the streets
Tsangyang Gyatso had always rejected life as a monk. However this did not mean the abandonment of his position as Dalai Lama. Prefers to wear common man's clothes and walk on foot instead of riding a horse or using the state palanquin. Tsangyang retained only the temporary privileges of the Dalai Lama. He also visited parks and spent nights on the streets of Lhasa, drinking alcohol, singing songs and hanging out with girls.
China called him on the way and got him killed
Tsangyang stopped giving his sermons in public parks and venues in 1702, which he was required to do as part of his training. In 1706 he was called to China. He died on the way to China. It is believed that on the pretext of such behavior of the Dalai Lama, a Mongol general, on the instructions of the Kangxi Emperor of China, murdered the Regent of Tibet and abducted the Sixth Dalai Lama. It is also said that China considered him a big threat to itself and got him killed. Lithang-born Kelsang Gyatso became the seventh Dalai Lama, succeeding Tsangyang.
The Sixth Dalai Lama is very popular in poems and songs
It is said that the Dalai Lama has either disappeared or been killed. The Sixth Dalai Lama is also known for his poems and songs which are popular not only in modern Tibet but also among Tibetan-speaking communities in Nepal, India, and throughout China.
Had predicted next life in his poem
While being led out of Tibet, Tsangyang wrote a poem that some say foretold his next life. 'White Stork lend me your wings. I won't fly very far. I will return from Lithang. Tsangyang mysteriously disappeared near Qinghai on November 15, 1706. This is the reason why there is no tomb of his in the Potala Palace.
