If we look at the partnerships being formed between the two countries in various fields, it often seems that America is going to the extent of tearing its heart to win India's trust. These steps by America justify India's suspicion

The roots of suspicion can be traced back to important moments in history. Whenever the interests of India and Pakistan clash, America often stands with Pakistan. Even today America, which teaches India the lessons of democracy and human rights, either remains silent when it sees human rights being violated in Pakistan or just completes the formality of protest. Not only this, America is not only nurturing anti-India forces in its country, but also does not hesitate to put India in the dock for supporting them. The way America supported anti-India forces and brought about a change of power in Bangladesh, cannot promote the feeling of friendship.

Events such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to the US have led to promising agreements such as semiconductor manufacturing deals and increased defence cooperation, but mutual suspicions remain. Critics argue that the US has a long record of imposing sanctions and interfering in other countries' affairs, raising suspicions of ulterior motives.

The recent controversy over the summons issued to India's National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval over the issue of Khalistani terrorists has further deepened suspicions about US intentions. Additionally, the narratives being projected on the Indian political scene reinforce the US's identity as a destabilizing force in South Asia. There are several reasons why it seems that the US has intentions to undermine India's sovereignty.

There are many obstacles in the path of true friendship

There are many obstacles to building a strong friendship between India and the US. The first obstacle is differences in strategic priorities, especially with regard to China. While both countries recognize the growing threat from Beijing, their approaches differ significantly. Proponents argue that major agreements on semiconductor manufacturing and defense technology signal a new era of development of strategic partnership cooperation between the two countries. This has also been emphasized in recent statements by India's Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. He described India-US relations as the defining partnership of the 21st century. However, mistrust rooted in historical grievances and current geopolitical complexities weakens India's overall commitment to this notion of trust.

Despite these concerns, there are many good reasons for India to look beyond skepticism and foster a strong partnership with the US. Proponents argue that the US remains India’s most viable ally in addressing global challenges, particularly in countering the influence of authoritarian regimes such as China. What is the way forward in India-US relations?
