Will Pakistan and China get tensed due to Param Rudra, the problem will be solved as soon as the third eye opens

New Delhi: Hardly any common man knows what supercomputers are. You can understand it like this that a supercomputer has so much power that the calculations it does in minutes will take a personal computer 500 years to complete. In other words, you can understand that so much information and data can be processed in it at a time that calculations equivalent to the earth revolving around the sun by 10 lakh times can be completed in just a few hours. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to dedicate three supercomputers worth Rs 130 crore, Param Rudra, to the nation. Today we will talk about these supercomputers of the country and the world. What are these, how do they work and what are their uses.

PARAM Rudra Supercomputers in Pune, Delhi and Kolkata

PARAM Rudra supercomputers have been deployed in Pune, Delhi and Kolkata to facilitate cutting-edge scientific research. The Giant Meter Radio Telescope (GMRC) in Pune will leverage supercomputers to detect fast radio bursts and other astronomical phenomena. The Inter University Accelerator Centre (IUAC) in Delhi will promote research in areas such as material science and nuclear physics. These supercomputers have been developed under India's National Supercomputing Mission (NSM). India's first supercomputer was the PARAM 8000, developed in 1991. It was designed and assembled at the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC), Pune.

India's name is very long in supercomputing

You will be surprised to know that Pakistan's name is not in the list of top 500 supercomputers of the world. It has only two low quality supercomputers. Whereas, China, America and Japan are far ahead in this matter. India has more than 11 supercomputers in the list of top 500. India's supercomputers are very advanced in terms of calculation. India's supercomputers like Param Anant, Param Shivay, Param Shakti and Param Brahma have earned a lot of fame. Param Rudra is an advanced version of these.

What are super computers, know this first

Supercomputers are extremely powerful high-performance computer systems that can process a lot of data simultaneously. They can solve complex calculations at a very high speed because each task is divided into many parts and they can do all the work at the same time.
What makes a supercomputer super is its ability to interconnect multiple processors in a single system. This allows it to divide a task and then complete it equally across all computers at the same time.

How Supercomputers Work

Compared to our everyday devices, supercomputers can perform multiple tasks simultaneously in parallel with the help of their built-in processors. An operation is divided into smaller parts, where each part is sent to the CPU to solve. These multi-core processors are located within a node along with memory blocks.

Laptop's 30 days of work in 1 day, the era of exascale supercomputing

There are some data that if you run it on a laptop it can take a week or month to get results, but if you process it on a supercomputer it will take only 1 day. With the arrival of Frontier in May 2022 we have entered the era of exascale supercomputing, which is producing machines capable of a quintillion calculations per second.

what are supercomputers used for

The general contribution of supercomputing to science is to get much closer to reality. This ability of supercomputers helps humans to predict better performance and design better products in the manufacturing, petroleum, medical and military sectors. Jack Dongarra, emeritus professor at the University of Tennessee, USA and recipient of the Turing Award, compares this ability to a crystal ball. He says what happens when two galaxies collide. How do we understand this? I cannot take two galaxies and make them collide. In such a situation, I have to make a model and look at it on a supercomputer.

Supercomputers

These are used in testing car models

Earlier when companies used to test new car models, they used to crash the car into a wall to understand how well the car could survive an accident. Earlier this was a very expensive and time-consuming test. Today we create a computer model of the car with all the calculations and crash it into a fake wall to understand where the weak points are in the car. Supercomputers are helpful in this work.

Even better at weather forecasting and climate research

As data is collected via supercomputers, satellites, radar and balloons – experts in the field gain a better understanding of how atmospheric conditions affect us and are better able to advise the public on weather-related topics, such as whether you should bring a jacket and what to do in the event of a storm.

By 'cooling' the sun's rays we will tell the pattern of rain

Derecho is a petascale supercomputer being used to study the effects of solar geoengineering, a method that would theoretically cool the planet by directing the sun's rays. It will also study how aerosol emissions affect rainfall patterns.

Genomic models for disease detection and treatment

With the help of supercomputers, a genomic model of a person can be created. It is also used to take a closer look at the DNA patterns of viruses. This helps in detecting diseases, diagnosing them and developing specific treatments for them. If this process is understood in a normal way, then it will take a team of researchers 13 years to understand it. But with the help of supercomputers, DNA patterns can be understood in just a few hours.

Detection of solar flares in aviation engineering

Supercomputing systems in aviation have been used to detect solar flares, predict turbulence, and estimate aeroelasticity (how aerodynamic loads affect aircraft) so that better planes can be built. In fact, Frontier, the world's fastest supercomputer to date, has been recruited by GE Aerospace to test open fan engine architectures designed for the next generation of commercial aircraft, which could help reduce carbon-dioxide emissions by more than 20 percent.

Very effective even in the world of space

Supercomputers can process large amounts of data collected from devices equipped with multiple sensors such as satellites, robots, and telescopes. They can use this to simulate outer space conditions on Earth. These machines can create artificial environments that match patches of the universe and recreate it with advanced generative algorithms. NASA has a working petascale supercomputer named Aitken, which is used to create high-resolution simulations in preparation for the upcoming Artemis missions. This helps reduce the risk of space missions.

Create a better environment for power reactors

Frontier and Summit, two of the world's highest-performing supercomputers, are used to characterize energy losses in plasmas and understand how to make the most of them. Led by scientists at General Atomics, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and the University of California, San Diego, the project aims to help develop the next generation of technology for fusion energy reactors.

Calculations of 500 years can be done by a personal computer in just a few minutes

According to the Advanced Computing Participation in Europe, current high-speed supercomputers perform calculations so fast that it would take a personal computer 500 years to complete them.

Calculated equivalent to 1 million revolutions around the Sun from the Earth in a few moments

Understand the calculation of a supercomputer in such a way that a person can solve an equation on pen and paper in one second. In the same time, the fastest supercomputer can do one quintillion calculations. That is, eighteen zeros. This calculation will be so long that it can make 10 lakh rounds from our earth to the sun.

It is important to understand supercomputers vs quantum computers

While supercomputers use classical computing hardware and binary bits, quantum computers use quantum hardware, the principles of quantum mechanics, and quantum bits (qubits) to process calculations. Qubits can store information as 0, 1, or both simultaneously. This allows quantum computers to sometimes work faster than supercomputers and solve problems that may be too complex for supercomputers.

The name supercomputer was coined in a newspaper

The term supercomputing was originally coined by the now defunct newspaper New York World in 1929, describing a large IBM tabulator at Columbia University. It could read 150 cards per minute. The world's first supercomputer was the CDC 6600 in 1964.
By the early 21st century, it was common to design pentascale supercomputers with tens of thousands of CPUs. Today, it has become common to incorporate cores, interconnects, memory power, artificial intelligence, and edge computing.

Frontier is the world's fastest computer

Frontier is the world's fastest supercomputer as of 2024. This supercomputer can perform quintillion calculations per second. Built by Hewlett Packard Enterprise, this supercomputer is located at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee, USA.
