When the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) sought everyone's opinion on the Waqf Amendment Bill, it received about 1.25 crore feedback. Now the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) feels that there is a conspiracy of foreign forces behind this. BJP MP from Godda, Jharkhand, Nishikant Dubey, has expressed apprehension of the possible influence of foreign institutions and fundamentalist organizations. He has also demanded a comprehensive investigation led by the Home Ministry to find out where so many feedbacks came from. The Narendra Modi government at the Center introduced an amendment bill in the Lok Sabha in the last session to make some important changes in the Waqf Act. The opposition demanded to send the bill to the JPC and now this Waqf Amendment Bill is with the JPC.
BJP MP wrote a letter to the JPC chairman
Nishikant Dubey is one of the members of JPC. He wrote a letter to JPC chairman Jagdambika Pal and expressed doubt that such a large number of feedbacks cannot come naturally from within India. He said that the language of many feedbacks is the same, which smells of conspiracy. Dubey said, 'The biggest issue is how many of these suggestions came from within India and how many from abroad.'

Conspiracy of Jihadi, radical Islamic organizations?
Dube specifically named individuals like Zakir Naik and organisations like Jamaat-e-Islami as well as some foreign intelligence agencies, including Pakistan's ISI and China, who are engaged in destabilising Indian democracy. He emphasised the need to examine feedback to protect the integrity of the legislative process. “Where these feedbacks come from must be carefully examined. We cannot allow foreign forces to influence our legislative committees through inputs based on a possible agenda,” Dube stressed.
Kiren Rijiju also expressed concern
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju also reiterated these concerns and said that receiving such a large number of feedback does not reflect a normal situation. He said that earlier even 1,000 feedbacks were considered. Emphasising the importance of transparency in the process, Rijiju said, “No one ever thought that the JPC would get recommendations worth crores.”
Owaisi asked for proof
Reacting to the BJP's demand for a probe, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi challenged the party to provide concrete evidence linking Zakir Naik, ISI and China in its feedback submission. Seeking clarity on the allegations, Owaisi asked, “If China is involved in this, can China register in India? Do you have any proof that ISI, China and Zakir Naik are involved in the Waqf?”
Wakf Amendment Bill goes to JPC
The JPC, constituted on 9 August 2024, has 31 members. These include 21 Lok Sabha and 10 Rajya Sabha MPs. They are responsible for reaching a conclusion by consulting on possible amendments to the Waqf Bill. For this reason, the committee had invited ideas and suggestions from various groups, but the feedback received in such a large number has made the process more complicated. The BJP feels that this cannot happen without any conspiracy. The question is whether the government will conduct an inquiry on the demand of its own MPs?
