Ashwin came out in support of the person whom Rohit Sharma called dangerous for the team, how will things work out

New Delhi. Ravichandran Ashwin is slowly becoming one of those players who are often found standing on the other side of controversial issues. From Mankading (now run out) to the impact player rule, there are many issues on which Ashwin's opinion is different from his captain or teammates. Ashwin has openly come out in support of the impact player whom Indian captain Rohit Sharma had called dangerous for the team.

Ravichandran Ashwin said this on former captain Krishnamachari Srikkanth's YouTube channel 'Cheeky Chika'. He said, 'I don't think the impact player rule is bad, because it gives an extra chance to make strategies. It is true that some people believe that this reduces opportunities for all-rounders. But who is stopping them from doing so?'

Off-spinner R. Ashwin further says, 'In this generation, they cannot do this (bowling to batsmen). It is not that they are being discouraged because they are impressive players. Now look at Venkatesh Iyer. He is doing brilliantly for Lancashire these days. There is always scope for newness in the game and it is only getting better.'

Ashwin also gives the example of the IPL 2024 Qualifier 2 match, in which the impact player changed the game. Rajasthan Royals included Shahbaz Nadeem in the team as an impact player after scoring 175 runs. Nadeem took 3 wickets in the match and led his team to victory.

Cricket lovers know that Rohit Sharma is not a supporter of the impact player rule. After IPL 2024, he clearly said that due to this rule, all-rounders do not get a chance. When the national team goes to play somewhere, all-rounders have to bear the brunt of this deficiency in international matches.

One rule changed the style of the game
Not only Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin have different opinions on the impact player, many franchises are also divided on this. In the next meeting of the IPL Council, there may be a debate on whether the impact player should be implemented or abolished. This rule was implemented in IPL in 2023. In the first year, this rule did not have much effect but in the second year it changed the style of the game. In IPL 2024, more than 200 runs were scored the most number of times and the impact player was considered to be the reason for this.
