Sammi Din Baloch is an activist known for her work advocating for human rights and freedom of expression. She has been involved in raising awareness of issues affecting marginalized communities in Pakistan, including the Balochistan region, where there has been a long-standing conflict and human rights abuses. Her activism and reporting often focuses on the struggles faced by the Baloch people, including issues related to enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and political repression.

Hamid Mir's statement comes after Pakistani security forces took strict action against Baloch National Assembly participants, reflecting a growing crackdown on dissent in Balochistan.

According to reports, several Baloch people were detained and arrested during this gathering. The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) reported on the situation on social media platform X.

In a post on X, BYC said, “Security forces attacked the sit-in protest in front of Balochistan University, detaining twelve female and over fifty male protestors. Human rights violations in Balochistan are at an all-time high, with state institutions brutally suppressing peaceful voices, which is another chapter of atrocities against the Baloch people. The sit-in was organised to protest against the state's harsh measures against Baloch Raji Muchi. Instead of getting justice, the protestors became victims of the oppressive regime.”

Further, BYC said that Pakistan Army opened fire on a peaceful convoy of Baloch National Conference (Baloch Raji Muchi) coming from Karachi to Kund Malir and forcibly sent them back.

“Yesterday, the Pakistan Army fired on the peaceful Baloch Raji Muchi caravan at Kund Malir and forced them to turn back. In response, the caravan has started a sit-in at Zero Point and will continue the blockade until they are allowed to join the Baloch Raji Muchi at Gwadar,” the BYC said. The action has been widely criticised, with concerns being raised that such measures will worsen the situation rather than address the underlying issues.

Balochistan's history is filled with conflict and human rights violations. The Baloch people, an ethnic minority in Pakistan, have suffered many injustices and acts of violence over the years, leading to frequent unrest and activism.

The community has faced considerable political repression, including restrictions on freedom of expression, assembly, and association. Activists and political figures advocating for Baloch rights and greater autonomy have been particularly targeted.
