When will the surgery of the innocent child of Begusarai take place?

This child from Begusarai, Bihar was just three months old in 2019 when he was diagnosed with a heart disease. The child's parents say that ever since they came to know about the disease, they have visited AIIMS several times. Each time the doctors gave them a new date for surgery, but the operation could not take place. The NHRC said that if whatever has been said in the media report is true, then it is a case of serious violation of human rights. Health and medical facilities are the basic rights of every person. AIIMS is a prestigious government health institution, where people from all over the country come to get their loved ones treated.

NHRC's question to AIIMS

The commission admitted that there are many obstacles in government hospitals across the country, but it is sad to know that an innocent child from Bihar is waiting for heart surgery for six years despite his critical condition. This is a matter of great concern. NHRC has issued a notice to the Secretary of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Director of AIIMS and sought a detailed report in this matter within a week. The commission has also sought details of the child's current health condition and the scheduled date of surgery given by the AIIMS doctors in the report.

Know what was said in the NHRC notice

Citing a report published in the Times of India, the NHRC has said in the notice that the child's father's monthly income is Rs 8,000. He is under heavy financial burden due to the cost of treatment. He has to spend Rs 13,000 to 15,000 every time on travelling to Delhi and food and accommodation. The child's condition is such that he cannot walk even 15 steps without getting breathless. His physical development has also stopped due to the disease. According to the report, AIIMS has cited several reasons for the delay in the surgery, including unavailability of beds and absence of doctors.

AIIMS said this in the whole matter

Meanwhile, AIIMS has also formed a committee to investigate these allegations. Professor Reema Dada, in-charge of AIIMS media cell, claimed that a report has been prepared in this matter and submitted to the director's office. However, at the time of contact, detailed information of the report was not available with her. She said that efforts are being made to gather information about what is in the report. On the other hand, the child's father Ankit Kumar said that AIIMS officials have contacted him and asked him to come to the OPD the next time he comes to Delhi. Talking to 'Times of India', Ankit Kumar said that he has also spoken to Dr. Nischal, founder of Rotary Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Program. Dr. Nischal has told Ankit Kumar that he will take a decision about the child's treatment only after examining him. Ankit Kumar is coming to Delhi on June 27 to get his child treated.
