New Delhi. 15 pilots of Vistara Airlines have resigned from the airline in the last few days, protesting against the revision in salary and package. Sources gave this information on Tuesday. This airline operates more than 300 flights daily and has a fleet of 70 aircraft. Tata group's airline Vistara has been struggling with increasing dissatisfaction among pilots for the last few weeks. During this period, many pilots of the airline's A320 aircraft became absent citing themselves as unwell.

According to sources, at least 15 pilots of Vistara have resigned and joined a domestic low-cost airline. Vistara spokesperson has refused to make any comment in this regard. The airline has about 800 pilots and the senior first officers who resigned had completed their conversion training, allowing them to operate the larger Boeing 787 aircraft.

Merger happening in Air India
Vistara, which is undergoing merger plans with Air India, has introduced new contracts for pilots. But many Vistara pilots are opposing this as the fixed component of compensation has been reduced and emphasis has been placed on flight-linked incentives. In the last few weeks, Vistara's aircraft operations have been affected due to non-availability of crew and many flights have had to be cancelled. On this, aviation regulator DGCA has also asked the airline to submit a daily report.

50 flights canceled
Due to protests by pilots, Vistara Airline has canceled more than 50 flights on Tuesday. Some commanders as well as the first officer of its A320 fleet have also gone on medical leave in protest against the demand for salary revision in the new contracts. The airline has also reduced its operations due to unavailability of pilots and crew members and other operational reasons.

DGCA showed strictness
DGCA on Tuesday said that in view of various flight disruptions of Vistara, it has asked the airline to provide daily information and complete details of flights being canceled and delayed. DGCA officials are monitoring the situation to ensure compliance with the necessary requirements to provide facilities to passengers in case of flight cancellations and delays. DGCA has clearly said that airlines will have to follow our norms in case of flight cancellation. Vistara is a joint venture between Tata Group and Singapore Airlines.
