Agents duped an Indian man
The name of the Indian man whose video has surfaced from the Russian army is Urgyen Tamang and he is a resident of Kalimpong in West Bengal. He was brought to Russia by deceit and was also recruited in the army. Urgyen Tamang told that he has been fighting for the Russian army for the last 6 months. He was sent to Russia by fraudulent agents. The agents had promised him a job as a security guard in Russia but when he reached Russia, he was sent to the Russia-Ukraine war.
Kalimpong Pradhan said that he is constantly in touch with Urgyen through WhatsApp, but we and his family do not even know whether we will be able to see Urgyen again or not. Help was sought from Kalimpong Municipality Chairman Rabi Pradhan. When Pradhan contacted the Ministry of External Affairs, he was told that the matter has been raised before the Indian Embassy in Moscow for necessary help.
What did Urgyen say in his video message?
In a video message sent on Thursday, Urgyen said, “I am Urgyen Tamang from West Bengal, India. I have been trapped in the Russia-Ukraine war since March. There were 15 non-Russians here but 13 have been killed. Only two of us, me and a Sri Lankan man, are alive. I am in touch with the Kalimpong Municipality Chairman. He told me that Modi is in Russia and has spoken to the Russian President. I am happy that I am alive and I want to go back to my country. I appeal to the authorities to please release me and other Indians. Jai Hind, Jai Bharat.”
Where is Urgyen Tamang now?
Urgyen Tamang told Rabi Pradhan during the conversation that right now we have been brought to the rest area for the next 10-12 days, but the rest area is also in the forest. There are shops nearby and we are allowed to go to the shops in the evening. There is Wi-Fi in our camp, but we have not been given the password, so we cannot make calls from the camp. Tamang also told Pradhan that according to him, they will probably be allowed to leave after the completion of the one-year agreement.
