LPG connection can save millions of lives
Many rural families in India still use wood, cow dung cakes and coal for cooking. The smoke emitted from these is very harmful for health. 'Vital Strategies' found in its survey that if these families completely adopt LPG, it will reduce indoor and outdoor pollution and save more than 1,50,000 lives every year. LPG is a clean fuel.
LPG usage is low in these four states
The study also found that four states, namely Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh, will benefit the most from this change. These states have a very high population, low LPG use and high air pollution levels. The study says that the biggest benefit of using LPG will be seen in the form of a reduction in infant mortality. It will also reduce the problem of low weight in children under five years of age and respiratory diseases in people over 60 years of age. Health researchers believe that reducing smoke from chulhas is very important to solve India's air pollution problem.
